Railway Section Refurbishment Novo mesto - Trebnje
Extensive maintenance works are currently underway on the railway section between Novo mesto and Trebnje, with the aim of improving the safety, reliability, and overall quality of the railway infrastructure.
The works include the rehabilitation of worn railway sections, improvement of the drainage system, renewal of the ballast bed, replacement of deteriorated sleepers, and other maintenance activities on the railway track superstructure. Once completed, the railway line will provide greater operational reliability, a smoother ride, and reduced infrastructure wear.
A particularly important part of the project is the improvement of the drainage system, which efficiently diverts rainwater and prevents track settlement and damage to the railway structure. The renewal of the ballast bed and replacement of sleepers help restore the correct track geometry, directly contributing to safer railway operations and greater passenger comfort.
Although these are regular maintenance works, they represent an important step in preserving the quality of the railway connection between Ljubljana, Novo mesto, and the Bela krajina region. Such investments also provide a solid foundation for the future comprehensive modernisation of the Dolenjska railway line, which remains one of the key development priorities of the cross-border region Ljubljana–Novo mesto–Karlovac–Zagreb.
The EGTC Future Paths welcomes continued investment in railway infrastructure, as proper maintenance of the existing railway network is an essential prerequisite for the development of faster, safer, and more environmentally friendly rail connections.
